Ex-England captain Nasser Hussain criticizes ICC, supports Pakistan & Bangladesh stance
Colombo, Sri Lanka – Web Desk: The T20 World Cup controversy has escalated as former England captain and cricket commentator Nasser Hussain openly supported Pakistan and Bangladesh in their stand against India. Speaking on a British podcast with Michael Atherton, Hussain praised both nations for standing firm on security and player rights.
The World Cup, scheduled from February 7 to March 8 in India and Sri Lanka, has been marred by Bangladesh’s refusal to travel to India due to security concerns, resulting in their exclusion from the tournament. Pakistan followed suit, refusing to play against India in solidarity.
Hussain criticized the growing political interference in cricket, calling it “disappointing” that the sport intended to unite countries is now creating divisions. He referenced incidents in the 2025 Asia Cup, including players refusing handshakes and trophy ceremonies, highlighting the need for consistent ICC policies.
The ex-captain questioned whether smaller nations are being treated fairly, noting, “Indian fans may cry about our money, but responsibility comes with power. Ignoring smaller nations could destabilize cricket’s balance.”
