President says talks must succeed or consequences could be “very bad”
Washington, United States | Web Desk — US President Donald Trump has adopted a tough and confrontational stance on Iran, warning that an American naval fleet is moving toward the region and that failure of ongoing negotiations could lead to severe consequences.
Speaking to the media in Washington, President Trump said talks with Iran are underway and reaching a deal is critical. However, he cautioned that if negotiations collapse, the situation could turn “very bad.”
Trump confirmed that US envoy Steve Witkoff is scheduled to meet Iran’s foreign minister on Friday, a meeting he described as potentially significant for diplomatic progress.
The US president also announced plans to establish a strategic reserve of critical minerals to support American industries, adding that US banks are set to invest $12 billion as part of broader economic measures.
Addressing domestic issues, Trump claimed US borders are now secure, asserting that illegal crossings have effectively stopped.
On global affairs, he said the United States is actively working to end the Russia–Ukraine war and expressed optimism about positive developments. Trump stated that around 25,000 people are being killed every month due to the conflict, calling the deep hostility between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky “shameful.”
Trump further claimed that the US has helped stop eight wars worldwide and that relations with Europe remain strong. Referring to Venezuela, he said American actions have forced a change in attitude from the country’s leadership.
Reiterating his warning to Tehran, Trump stressed that a deal with Iran has become unavoidable, cautioning that failure to reach an agreement could result in serious outcomes. He also categorically denied any involvement in the Jeffrey Epstein scandal.
