FO says Pakistan hasn’t joined any global force, backs Gaza peace under UN mandate

Islamabad, Pakistan | Web Desk — Pakistan on Wednesday firmly rejected claims linking the Gaza Board of Peace to the Abraham Accords, clarifying that Islamabad has neither joined the Abraham Accords nor taken any decision to participate in a so-called international stabilization force.

Foreign Office Spokesperson Tahir Hussain Andrabi, while addressing the weekly press briefing, termed the association of the Board of Peace with the Abraham Accords as a “misunderstanding.” He stressed that Pakistan’s participation in the Board of Peace is based on goodwill and is aimed at achieving a sustainable ceasefire in Gaza, facilitating reconstruction, and supporting the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination.

The spokesperson stated that the Board of Peace has approval under a United Nations Security Council resolution and is not a substitute for the UN but a supporting platform. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s principled stance on the two-state solution, emphasizing support for an independent Palestinian state based on 1967 borders with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.

Andrabi noted that Pakistan is not alone in the initiative, as several Muslim countries including Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, the UAE, Indonesia, and Qatar are also part of the Board of Peace. Launched collectively in September last year, the platform aims to address the humanitarian crisis and devastation faced by Gaza’s population over the past two years.

Briefing on diplomatic engagements, he said the President of Pakistan is visiting the United Arab Emirates, reflecting strong bilateral ties. He added that Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar attended the Davos forum, met global leaders, and later held discussions in Abu Dhabi with senior officials of Etisalat and PTCL to strengthen trade and economic cooperation.

On regional security, the Foreign Office spokesperson said the involvement of Afghan nationals in the DI Khan attack reflects a recurring pattern, adding that the issue has been raised at bilateral and other relevant forums.

Commenting on domestic legal matters, Andrabi clarified that cases involving Iman Mazari and Hadi Ali Chattha are Pakistan’s internal affairs. He also distanced the Foreign Office from remarks attributed to Judge Mujoka regarding Iran, stating that such comments represented personal views and not Pakistan’s official position.
