Sindh CM inaugurates Rs6.1bn Malir River bridge linking Korangi and Landhi

Karachi, Pakistan | Web Desk: Residents of Korangi and Landhi received major relief as the Sindh government inaugurated the newly constructed Korangi Causeway Bridge over the Malir River, significantly improving traffic flow and connectivity.

The 1.4-kilometer-long Korangi Causeway Bridge, built at a cost of Rs 6.135 billion, was officially opened by Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah. The modern bridge is 26 meters wide and designed to ensure smooth transportation even during Malir River flooding.

According to the Chief Minister’s spokesperson, construction began in July 2023 and was successfully completed in January 2026. The project is expected to reduce daily traffic congestion for nearly 50,000 commuters.

Speaking to the media, CM Murad Ali Shah said the Sindh government is committed to upgrading Karachi’s infrastructure. He announced that Shahrah-e-Bhutto will be connected to the M-9 Motorway after Eid, further easing travel pressure across the city.

Addressing the Gul Plaza tragedy, the Chief Minister confirmed that an FIR has been registered and those responsible will be punished. The Sindh government will provide Rs10 million compensation per deceased victim, Rs500,000 financial assistance to affected shopkeepers for two months, and will reconstruct the plaza in collaboration with traders.

He also announced a mandatory safety audit of all buildings across Sindh, warning that unsafe structures will be sealed without compromise.
