ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – The government has submitted a report to the Islamabad High Court (IHC) regarding suspension of the X account of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan.
According to the report presented by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), the government has been attempting for the past three and a half years to block Imran Khan’s X account. The PTA first wrote to X on August 21, 2022, requesting suspension of the account. A subsequent request was sent on April 18, 2024, citing convictions in the Toshakhana, cipher, and iddat cases.
The report further stated that on November 27, 2025, the PTA asked X to block 47 posts from Imran Khan’s account. However, despite three formal requests over the past three and a half years, X rejected most of them and blocked only one post from the latest request.
The PTA informed the court that it had asked social media companies to register with the authority in Pakistan, but these companies neither registered nor appointed focal persons in the country.
The court was also told that social media companies registered in their home countries do not consider themselves bound by the laws of other states. Complaints from other countries, the PTA said, are reviewed by these platforms strictly under their own internal policies rather than local laws.
