Kamran Tessori seeks relocation of fire-hit traders, warns of resignation if justice fails.

Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tessori has called for immediate relief for traders affected by the devastating Gul Plaza fire, proposing their temporary relocation to the vacant Parking Plaza building in Saddar, Karachi.

Addressing a press conference at the Governor House alongside representatives of the business community, the governor described the Gul Plaza tragedy as a national loss and stressed that this was not a time for political point-scoring but for practical action. He announced plans to formally write to the Mayor of Karachi, requesting permission for the affected traders to resume business activities temporarily in the empty parking plaza.

Governor Tessori also urged the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry to collaborate with the Sindh Building Control Authority to take decisive action against illegal constructions to prevent future disasters. He said discussions would also be held with Gul Plaza management to determine how operations were being run before the incident.

Welcoming the Sindh government’s announcement of Rs10 million in compensation, Tessori emphasized the need for long-term preventive measures. He praised the Pakistan Navy for its swift response, stating that naval personnel reached the site within 20 minutes and played a crucial role in rescue efforts.

The governor further announced that he would request Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to visit Karachi and help secure federal funds. He assured traders that special and MNAs’ development funds would also be arranged for their rehabilitation.

In a strong statement, Tessori warned that if the case is closed without accountability, he would resign, saying public officeholders must answer to Allah and the people
