Crackdown on unlicensed pharmacies, substandard drugs ordered

(Web Desk) – The Provincial Minister for Health, Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Khaliq ur Rehman has ordered strict legal action against all unlicensed medical stores and directed to launch a province-wide enforcement campaign against substandard and falsified medicines, with immediate effect.

These decisions were taken at a meeting held in the Committee Room of the Health Department under the chairmanship of the Minister for Health, in collaboration with the Secretary Health and senior officials of the Directorate General of Drug Control & Pharmacy Services on Monday here.

The Minister directed all drug inspectors and field officers to intensify advocacy and awareness campaigns with chemists and druggists through their respective unions and associations to ensure strict compliance with drug laws, rules, and regulations across the province.

To ensure transparency and accountability, the Minister ordered that all enforcement activities shall be reported on a daily basis, supported by pictorial evidence, through duly compiled Daily Activity Reports. These reports will be reviewed fortnightly by the Minister for Health and the Secretary Health.

Reaffirming the government’s zero-tolerance policy, the Provincial Minister for Health stated that no compromise will be made on the quality, safety and efficacy of medicines and that protecting public health remains the top priority of the government.
