Six police personnel, including the Station House Officer (SHO) of Gomal police station, were martyred on Monday after an improvised explosive device (IED) struck a police armoured personnel carrier (APC) in the Tank district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

According to police officials, the blast occurred in the Kot Wali area within the limits of Gomal police station while the APC was on routine patrol. The roadside IED detonated as the vehicle passed, killing five officers on the spot. A sixth policeman later succumbed to his injuries.

Police confirmed that both the SHO and Additional SHO were among the martyrs. Following the attack, the area was cordoned off and a search operation was launched to trace the perpetrators. The bodies were shifted to District Headquarters Hospital Tank for medico-legal formalities, while security was tightened across the region.

President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif strongly condemned the attack, paying tribute to the bravery and sacrifice of the martyred officers. Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi also denounced the incident, stating that the nation would never forget the sacrifices made by police personnel in the fight against terrorism.
