KARACHI (Web Desk) – The Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) Board of Governors has formally approved the second phase of renovation of the National Cricket Stadium Karachi, marking a key step in the board’s ongoing infrastructure development programme.
The decision was taken during a video-link meeting chaired by PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, which also approved the upgradation of the Lahore City Cricket Association (LCCA) Ground.
Board members praised Naqvi and his team for the successful PSL roadshows held in London and New York, describing them as a significant boost to Pakistan cricket’s global profile.
The meeting paid tribute to Naqvi’s efforts in ensuring the continuation of the Sri Lankan team’s recent tour of Pakistan.
A resolution expressing gratitude and appreciation for the chairman was unanimously adopted by the Board of Governors.
Addressing the meeting, Naqvi said the credit for keeping the Sri Lankan tour on track belonged to the entire PCB team rather than any individual.
He said sincere and collective efforts had made the tour possible. He also said the success of the PSL roadshows reflected the hard work of both PCB and PSL teams, who worked tirelessly to establish the league as an international brand.
Naqvi informed the board that efforts were underway to host matches of PSL 11 at the Muzaffarabad Stadium and to bring international cricket to the venue in the future. He further announced plans to construct a state-of-the-art cricket stadium in Islamabad.
PSL Chief Executive Officer Salman Naseer briefed the meeting on the PSL roadshows, while the board was also informed about upcoming ICC men’s and women’s tournaments.
Discussions were held on strengthening the domestic cricket structure and increasing the number of grassroots-level tournaments and matches.
The meeting was attended by Board of Governors members Ismail Qureshi, Tariq Sarwar, Sajjad Ali Khokhar, Anwar Ghani, Zaheer Abbas and Tanvir Ahmed, along with senior government and PCB officials, including the PSL CEO and other departmental heads.
