LAHORE – Pakistan Muslim League-N leader Nawaz Sharif has said that Imran Khan is not the only one responsible for the country’s current state, but those who brought him to power are equally guilty.
Addressing newly elected members of the assembly, Sharif criticized the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government, saying it brought only destruction, promoted a culture of disrespect, and pushed the country to the brink of bankruptcy. He noted that inflation during PTI’s tenure rose to 39 percent, compared to just 3 percent during his government. “Had the journey of development continued, Pakistan would have had a strong position in the world today and no worries about the IMF,” he added.
Sharif further said that from 2018 to 2022, PTI was responsible for spreading hatred, lies, and chaos, which hindered national progress. He stressed that merit was disregarded during that period, and Khan was not the only culprit—those who facilitated his rise were also to blame.
Commenting on the Punjab by-elections, Sharif mocked PTI’s boycott claim, pointing out that Omar Ayub’s wife contested the polls. He said the people rejected PTI’s politics of lies and hatred, congratulating the assembly members for defeating abusive and disruptive politics.
Sharif highlighted ongoing development under the current government, mentioning merit-based initiatives, distribution of laptops, road construction, green buses, improved law and order, and ration cards provided without religious discrimination. He assured that more projects would be introduced soon.
