On International Day, Sindh CM condemns all violence against women

Date:

KARACHI (Web Desk) – Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, in a message on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, said that violence against women is absolutely intolerable.

On this global observance, the CM stated that the day serves as a reminder to end violence against women and girls and to raise social awareness. He highlighted the importance of this year’s global theme: “UNiTE! Invest to end violence against women and girls.”

He said that speaking out against violence is a collective, social, legal and moral responsibility. Any form or level of violence is unacceptable and condemnable.

The CM added that all segments of society must play an active role in ending violence against women, while the Sindh government has introduced comprehensive and effective legislation for their protection. The Domestic Violence Act 2013 provides legal protection against domestic abuse, and the Child Marriage Restraint Act forms a strong legal framework to prevent underage marriages.

He further stated that the Women Agricultural Workers Act 2019 ensures fair wages and protection for women, and that the provincial ombudsman is actively enforcing laws against workplace harassment.

CM Shah said that providing equal opportunities for women is a top priority of the Sindh government, as women play a vital role in economic and social development.

He added that a society free from violence can lay the foundations for progress, justice and social harmony. The Sindh Commission on the Status of Women is an effective body monitoring women’s rights and cases of violence.
