IMF presses Pakistan to fulfill demands ahead of next FY budget

Date:

(Web desk) – The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has demanded the government of Pakistan to take some important steps before the presentation of the national budget for the next financial year (FY).

The IMF has demanded the government to make the tax system easy and share with it the strategy devised in this regard by May, 2026.

The Fund has also made a demand that the facility of tax exemption granted to different sectors be also curtailed.

Besides that, it has asked the government to reduce withholding and advance taxes; reduce the powers of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to make rules.

The international money-lending organization has also recommended that a progress report on implementation on the recommendations made by the FBR be released annually; that the administrative structure of the Board be improved, and that the powers of the department’s field offices be also curtailed.

And lastly, the IMF has also recommended publishing the findings of the audit related to the Pakistan Revenue Automation Limited (PRAL).
