Germany Lifts Arms Export Ban on Israel Amid Gaza Ceasefire Stabilit

Date:

BERLIN – The German government has announced the lifting of its arms export ban on Israel, originally imposed in August following Israel’s plans to expand military operations in Gaza City. The decision will take effect from November 24, according to government spokesperson Sebastian Hille.

The ban was introduced after German Chancellor Friedrich Merz expressed concern over escalating violence in Gaza. At the time, Germany restricted arms shipments to Israel in response to the humanitarian impact of the proposed military expansion.

Hille stated that the policy was always subject to review based on developments on the ground. He cited the relative stability of the ceasefire in Gaza since October 10 as the primary reason for lifting the restrictions.

Germany now expects all parties to fully adhere to the ceasefire agreement and ensure the delivery of large-scale humanitarian aid to affected populations. The move signals a shift in Berlin’s stance, balancing its strategic ties with Israel against its commitment to international humanitarian standards.
