LAHORE — In a sweeping move reflecting Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s evolving political strategy, PTI lawmakers have resigned from all standing committees of the Punjab Assembly, including their chairmanships, following directives from party founder Imran Khan.
The resignations were formally submitted to the Speaker’s Office on Friday and have been accepted, confirmed by Acting Secretary General Khalid Mahmood. The wave of withdrawals marks a significant shift in PTI’s legislative engagement at the provincial level.
Among those stepping down are MPAs Hafiz Farhat Abbas, Sana Karimi, Rana Shehbaz, Awais Virk, Malik Mumtaz, Farukh Javed Moon, Sheikh Imtiaz, and Ahmar Rasheed Bhatti — the latter relinquishing roles in several key committees including Energy, Law Enforcement, Legislation, and Planning & Development.
PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan stated that the directive came directly from Imran Khan, who ordered members to resign from all 14 standing committees currently led by the party. The move mirrors a similar decision last month when PTI lawmakers exited standing committees in the National Assembly and Senate.
The party is also preparing to boycott upcoming by-elections, signaling a deepening political standoff with the current government and a recalibration of PTI’s parliamentary strategy.
