(Web Desk): A private institution has announced scholarships worth millions of rupees for Karachi University students.
The private institution, which was not named, will provide scholarships worth Rs5.9 million to students of five departments of Karachi University.
A deal has been reached between Karachi University and the private institution to provide scholarships.
Speaking on the occasion, Vice Chancellor Dr Khalid Iraqi said only two percent of Pakistan’s students are able to pursue higher education.
Dr Khalid Iraqi said there is no industrial growth in Pakistan.
Vice Chancellor said the federal government does not provide funds for education.
Dr Khalid Iraqi further said that parents are unable to give education to their children due to unemployment.
The government and the private sector should come forward, Dr Khalid Iraqi said. He said Karachi University provides alumni scholarships at the departmental level.
The University of Karachi is the only university in the country where a Student Admission Fund has been established, Vice Chancellor of Karachi University said.
He said last year, Rs10 million was allocated for this purpose.
This is for those students who, despite being eligible, face financial problems and unable to pay fees, Khalid Iraqi said.
