Washington offers up to $20 million and possible relocation for information about Iran’s nuclear facilities, equipment, scientists and associated personnel.
WASHINGTON, UNITED STATES — WEB DESK: The United States has announced a reward of up to $20 million for information about Iran’s nuclear programme, offering possible relocation to individuals who provide valuable intelligence about the country’s nuclear facilities, equipment and associated personnel.
US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced the offer on Friday through its official social media account, saying the initiative was being carried out under the State Department’s Rewards for Justice programme.
According to the announcement, the US is seeking information about Iran’s nuclear infrastructure, equipment, scientists and other individuals associated with the programme.
The offer also covers information about the movement of relevant personnel, facilities and equipment.
US seeks intelligence on Iran’s nuclear facilities
The State Department’s Rewards for Justice programme is offering up to $20 million for information that could help identify and monitor Iran’s nuclear-related activities.
According to the department’s official announcement, the information sought includes details about nuclear facilities, equipment, scientific personnel and organisations connected to the programme.
The initiative also provides for possible relocation for individuals who supply qualifying information.
The US government has not publicly specified the exact criteria for receiving the maximum reward.
Washington raises concerns over Iran’s nuclear activities
In its statement, the US State Department cited concerns over Iran’s compliance with safeguards obligations under the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
The department said Iran’s alleged lack of compliance had affected the agency’s ability to maintain continuous knowledge of the country’s production and inventory of important nuclear components, including centrifuges.
The US has repeatedly expressed concerns about Iran’s uranium enrichment activities and the potential implications for nuclear proliferation.
Iran, however, has consistently maintained that its nuclear programme is peaceful.
Reward announcement comes amid US-Iran tensions
The announcement comes amid heightened tensions between Washington and Tehran, with President Donald Trump repeatedly claiming that US military strikes had severely damaged or destroyed Iran’s nuclear programme.
The latest reward offer has drawn attention because Washington is continuing to seek intelligence about Iran’s nuclear infrastructure despite Trump’s claims regarding the destruction of the programme.
Meanwhile, diplomatic efforts are continuing to address the confrontation between the two countries.
Qatar has also been involved in mediation efforts aimed at reducing tensions and finding a possible diplomatic solution.
The $20 million initiative highlights Washington’s continued interest in obtaining intelligence about Iran’s nuclear capabilities and the personnel and infrastructure associated with them.
