RIYADH / TEHRAN — WEB DESK: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has held a telephone conversation with his Saudi counterpart, Prince Faisal bin Farhan, to discuss regional developments and diplomatic efforts aimed at strengthening security and stability across the Middle East.
According to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), Prince Faisal received a phone call from Araghchi on Thursday, November 5, during which the two ministers reviewed the latest regional situation and ongoing efforts to enhance regional security.
Iranian state media also reported that the foreign ministers exchanged views on recent developments and progress in diplomatic initiatives aimed at establishing stability in the region.
Diplomatic engagement amid regional tensions
The conversation comes as tensions continue across the Middle East, with diplomatic efforts underway to prevent further escalation and address outstanding regional issues.
Saudi Arabia and Iran restored diplomatic relations in 2023 after years of strained ties, following an agreement brokered by China.
Relations between the two regional powers have remained an important factor in Middle Eastern security, particularly regarding developments in Yemen and wider Gulf affairs.
Araghchi holds talks with other regional counterparts
The Saudi-Iranian conversation was part of a wider series of diplomatic contacts conducted by Araghchi on Thursday.
The Iranian foreign minister also held separate telephone conversations with his counterparts from Qatar and Oman to discuss regional developments and diplomatic initiatives.
He additionally contacted officials from Pakistan, Turkey, Jordan and other regional countries as part of consultations concerning regional stability.
Focus on regional security and stability
The latest engagement highlights continued diplomatic communication between Tehran and Riyadh at a time of heightened regional uncertainty.
Both countries have an interest in regional stability, although their positions on several regional conflicts and security issues have historically differed.
Neither government announced a specific agreement or breakthrough resulting from Thursday’s telephone conversation.
Further diplomatic contacts between regional governments are expected to remain important as efforts continue to address tensions and promote stability.
