A Russian jet-powered drone struck a railway platform in Ukraine’s Dnipro on October 29, killing at least 14 people and injuring others.
DNIPRO, UKRAINE — WEB DESK: At least 14 people were killed when a Russian drone struck a railway platform in the Ukrainian city of Dnipro on Thursday, October 29, according to the latest available regional reporting. The attack hit a platform where a passenger train was standing, while civilians were present at the station.
Ukraine’s state railway operator, Ukrzaliznytsia, said a jet-powered drone struck a platform where train No. 866, travelling from Dnipro to Zaporizhzhia, was located. Ukrainian officials initially reported 13 deaths, with subsequent reporting raising the toll to at least 14.
Passenger Train Hit at Railway Station
The drone struck the railway station during the morning, hitting a platform where passengers were present. According to Ukrzaliznytsia, an elevated threat warning had been issued before the attack, but people remained on the platform.
Dnipro Mayor Borys Filatov described the incident as a tragedy and said a civilian electric train had been hit. The attack prompted an emergency response as rescue workers and medical teams treated the injured.
Casualties and Emergency Response
The initial official toll was 13 people killed and at least five injured. Later reporting from Ukrainian public broadcaster Suspilne put the death toll at 14 and reported additional injuries. Casualty figures may continue to change as authorities provide updates.
Emergency services, medical personnel and law enforcement officers responded to the scene. Ukrainian reporting said some of the injured were in serious condition and required hospital treatment.
Ukrainian Officials Condemn the Attack
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned the strike and called for stronger international action against Russia. He argued that continued attacks on civilian areas demonstrated the need for sustained pressure on Moscow.
Railway Infrastructure Under Threat
Ukraine’s extensive railway network plays an important role in transporting passengers and goods across the country. The network is particularly important because regular commercial air travel remains suspended during the war.
The Dnipro incident underscores the risks facing civilians travelling by rail as Russian and Ukrainian forces continue exchanging drone and missile attacks.
