Shadab scores an unbeaten 113 as Pakistan recover from 154-9 to chase down 242 at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium, sealing a one-wicket victory and a place in the tri-series final.
LAHORE, Pakistan: Shadab Khan struck his maiden international century to guide Pakistan to a dramatic one-wicket victory over England in the ODI tri-series at Gaddafi Stadium on Sunday, October 25.
Pakistan chased down England’s target of 242, finishing at 243-9 in 47.1 overs after a remarkable recovery from 154-9. Shadab remained unbeaten on 113 off 96 balls, while Haris Rauf scored seven not out and hit the winning boundary.
The result secured Pakistan’s place in the tri-series final, scheduled for October 31.
Shadab and Haris Rescue Pakistan
Pakistan’s chase appeared all but over after the team lost nine wickets for 154 runs. Shadab, however, continued to attack and built an unbeaten 89-run partnership with Haris for the 10th wicket.
Shadab’s innings included 13 fours and five sixes. His century was the highest individual score in men’s one-day internationals by a batter coming in at No. 8 or lower, according to the International Cricket Council.
There was a tense moment when Shadab was given out leg-before-wicket on 97 against Gus Atkinson. Pakistan reviewed the decision, and the review showed an inside edge, allowing him to continue his innings.
Haris stayed at the other end as Shadab carried the chase forward before striking the decisive shot to complete the victory with 17 balls remaining.
Ben Duckett Leads England’s Innings
Earlier, England were bowled out for 241 in 46.4 overs after Pakistan won the toss and elected to field.
Ben Duckett top-scored with 105 off 111 balls, while Sam Curran contributed 42. England recovered from an early collapse through Duckett’s innings and a 93-run partnership with Curran, but Pakistan’s bowlers restricted the visitors to a total the hosts eventually surpassed.
Shaheen Shah Afridi led Pakistan’s bowling attack with four wickets for 46 runs. Arafat Minhas and Razaullah claimed two wickets each.
England struggled to defend the total despite reducing Pakistan to nine wickets down. Jamie Overton took three wickets, while Liam Dawson and Atkinson claimed two apiece.
Pakistan Book Place in Final
The win marked Pakistan’s third consecutive victory in the tri-series and confirmed their place in the final. England, meanwhile, suffered their third defeat in as many matches in the tournament.
Shadab was named player of the match for his unbeaten century, which transformed a near-certain defeat into one of Pakistan’s most memorable ODI chases.
Pakistan will now prepare for the final on October 31, with the remaining tournament fixtures determining the final standings.
