Fazlur Rehman Calls Government ‘Fake and Defeated’, Questions Decision-Making Power
ISLAMABAD: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has criticised the federal government, describing it as “fake and defeated” and questioning its ability to make decisions.
Addressing the Mufti Mahmood Conference at Qila Kohna Qasim Bagh in Multan, Fazlur Rehman criticised what he described as undemocratic measures, violations of provincial rights and the concentration of power among influential groups.
JUI-F chief said his party would resist actions it considers contrary to democratic principles.
Fazlur Rehman criticises government over democracy
Fazlur Rehman said powerful groups had repeatedly undermined democratic institutions and provincial autonomy. He questioned why Pakistan had yet to achieve its goals of economic prosperity and genuine independence nearly eight decades after its establishment.
He said JUI-F had pursued political and parliamentary avenues and would continue opposing measures it considers undemocratic.
The JUI-F leader also referred to poverty and inflation, saying economic hardship had placed a significant burden on ordinary citizens.
JUI-F chief criticises PPP over democratic record
During his address, Fazlur Rehman criticised the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), questioning its democratic credentials in light of historical events involving former East Pakistan.
He also referred to previous instances of governor’s rule in Pakistan, arguing that the PPP had participated in decisions that he believes undermined democratic principles.
His remarks reflected his criticism of the federal government’s approach to provincial governance and the role of political parties in decisions affecting elected administrations.
Questions raised over measures in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
Fazlur Rehman also criticised the reported imposition of governor’s rule and emergency measures in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).
He questioned why different approaches were being taken in KP and Balochistan, particularly in relation to security concerns and provincial administration.
The JUI-F chief alleged that federal authorities had used emergency measures to gain control over mineral resources that fall within provincial jurisdiction. These assertions were part of his political criticism and have not been independently established by this report.
Announces public gathering in Sargodha
During the conference, Fazlur Rehman announced plans for a large public gathering in Sargodha on November 26.
He also referred to a conversation with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, raising questions about the government’s approach to a proposed long march and whether it intended to prevent the demonstration through force.
Fazlur Rehman maintained that JUI-F would resist measures it considers undemocratic and continue to raise its concerns through political channels.
His speech placed renewed emphasis on democratic governance, provincial autonomy, economic hardship and the role of elected institutions in Pakistan’s political system.
