Peshawar Police Defuse 11kg Pressure Cooker Bomb in Yakka Toot

PESHAWAR, PAKISTAN: Police in Peshawar defused an 11-kilogram pressure cooker bomb discovered inside a locked house in the Hafizabad area of Yakka Toot, preventing a potentially serious security incident in the densely populated neighbourhood.

The incident came to light when the house was opened for construction work and a suspicious pressure cooker was found inside, police said, according to the report published on October 16, 2026.

Bomb Disposal Squad Takes Action

A specialised Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) responded to the discovery and successfully neutralised the suspected explosive device.

The operation was conducted under the supervision of Peshawar SP City Shahid Adnan and Yakka Toot Station House Officer Riaz Afridi, according to the published report.

Police said the timely response helped avert a potential danger to residents in the surrounding area.

Locked House Had Been Rented Months Earlier

According to the police account cited by Express News, the house in Hafizabad had been rented to an Afghan family approximately five to six months earlier and had remained locked.

The suspicious device was discovered when the property was opened for construction-related work. The available report does not establish who placed the device inside the house or whether the former occupants had any connection to it.

No arrests or confirmed suspects were identified in the report.

Case Referred to Counter Terrorism Department

Police have sent a formal communication to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) for registration of a case.

The investigation is expected to establish the circumstances surrounding the device’s presence, including who may have placed it in the property and whether the incident was connected to a wider security threat.

Inspector General of Police Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Zulfiqar Hameed praised Peshawar police and the bomb disposal team for their timely response.

The investigation remains ongoing, and further details will depend on official findings.
