The committee has pledged continued intelligence-based operations, stronger police and CTD capabilities, and development initiatives in terrorism-affected areas.
WEB DESK: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s provincial Apex Committee has pledged decisive and coordinated measures against terrorism, announcing that intelligence-based operations will continue across the province.
The decisions were taken at a meeting in Peshawar on Monday, October 12, chaired by KP Governor Faisal Karim Kundi and attended by Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, senior military officials and other civil and security authorities.
According to the official statement reported, the meeting reviewed the province’s security situation and discussed measures aimed at countering terrorism and establishing lasting peace.
The committee called on relevant departments to coordinate their efforts and use available resources to improve law and order.
Police and CTD to Receive Additional Resources
The committee decided to strengthen the operational capabilities of the KP Police and the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD).
The proposed measures include modern equipment, weapons, vehicles, armoured vehicles and additional personnel to support law enforcement operations.
The meeting emphasised that police and counterterrorism institutions require adequate logistical support and manpower to carry out their responsibilities.
Intelligence-based operations against militants will continue, the committee said, reiterating that counterterrorism and maintaining law and order remain priorities for state institutions.
The statement did not provide a detailed funding breakdown or implementation schedule for the proposed resources.
Development in Terrorism-Affected Areas
The meeting also addressed the social and economic challenges facing residents of underdeveloped and terrorism-affected districts.
Participants agreed to give greater attention to education, healthcare, living standards and broader socioeconomic development.
The committee’s stated approach links security measures with improvements in public services and living conditions. Officials said addressing longstanding local issues would form part of efforts to achieve sustainable peace.
The extent of funding and the timeline for implementing these development measures were not specified in the announcement.
Officials Pay Tribute to Security Personnel
At the start of the meeting, participants paid tribute to personnel who lost their lives while performing duties related to maintaining peace and security.
The committee reiterated that eliminating terrorism and improving law and order required coordinated efforts by the relevant state institutions.
The meeting brought together civilian and military officials to review security requirements and discuss further steps for the province.
Meeting Follows Change in KP’s Administrative Arrangements
The meeting took place after emergency measures and Governor’s Rule were imposed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on October 11, 2026, following federal action linked to the province’s security situation.
President Asif Ali Zardari approved the measures on the advice of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif under Articles 232 and 234 of the Constitution, according to the federal government’s announcement.
Under the resulting arrangement, the governor assumed provincial government functions with the assistance of an advisory council, while the provincial assembly was not dissolved.
The administrative change has altered the province’s governance arrangements as authorities address the security situation.
Focus on Security and Long-Term Stability
The Apex Committee’s announcement sets out two connected priorities: strengthening the capacity of law enforcement agencies and improving conditions in communities affected by militancy.
The continuation of intelligence-based operations will remain a central part of the announced security approach, while the committee has also called for stronger public services and socioeconomic development.
Details about the timing, funding and practical implementation of the decisions remain to be announced.
