US and Iran Holding Talks on Seven Points, Pakistan Foreign Office Says

ISLAMABAD, PAKISTAN — WEB DESK: The United States and Iran are engaged in discussions over seven proposals aimed at addressing their ongoing dispute, Pakistan’s Foreign Office has said, confirming that Washington has communicated its position on points presented by Tehran.

Foreign Office spokesperson Sajjad Haider Khan outlined the development during a weekly media briefing in Islamabad on Friday, October 9, as Pakistan continued diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions between the two countries.

The spokesperson said direct communication between Washington and Tehran had emerged following Pakistan’s mediation efforts.

Washington Responds to Iran’s Seven Points

The Foreign Office confirmed that the United States had shared its response to the seven points put forward by Iran.

The development indicates that proposals and counterpositions are being exchanged, although the two governments have not announced a comprehensive settlement.

The spokesperson did not provide a detailed breakdown of all seven points or identify which proposals had been accepted, rejected or remained disputed.

He also did not announce a date or venue for a new round of formal negotiations.

Islamabad Agreement Remains Part of Diplomatic Process

Khan referred to the existing Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, which has served as a framework for efforts to manage the confrontation.

He said some of the issues currently being discussed were consistent with provisions contained in that memorandum.

The comments suggest that the parties are continuing to examine previously identified areas of disagreement rather than starting an entirely new diplomatic process.

However, the existence of a negotiating framework does not mean its provisions have been fully implemented.

Pakistan Welcomes Direct US-Iran Contacts

The spokesperson welcomed direct communication between the United States and Iran, describing it as a result of Islamabad’s earlier diplomatic engagement.

Pakistan has played a facilitating role in efforts to bring the two sides closer to negotiations.

Other countries have also participated in diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions and encourage a negotiated settlement.

Islamabad maintains that sustained dialogue offers a better route to stability than further military escalation.

Pakistan Ready to Mediate Again

Khan said Pakistan remained prepared to facilitate further talks between Washington and Tehran if requested.

The Foreign Office reaffirmed its support for direct communication, de-escalation and a peaceful resolution of the dispute.

The diplomatic process remains particularly significant because the conflict has affected regional security, energy supplies and shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.

Disagreements over maritime security, sanctions and Iran’s nuclear programme have complicated previous negotiations.

No Final Agreement Announced

Despite the reported exchange of positions, neither Washington nor Tehran has publicly announced that all seven points have been resolved.

The Foreign Office did not disclose a timetable for reaching a final agreement.

The latest remarks therefore indicate that diplomatic engagement remains active, but substantial uncertainty persists over the outcome.

Pakistan’s central message is that negotiations are continuing, Washington has responded to Tehran’s proposals, and Islamabad remains willing to assist further diplomatic efforts.
