The deputy prime minister and National Strategic Command chief discuss security, regional developments and Pakistan’s national interests in Islamabad.

WEB DESK: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Commander National Strategic Command General Syed Aamer Raza have stressed the importance of close institutional coordination on national security and regional peace.

General Aamer Raza called on Dar at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Islamabad on Wednesday, where the two officials discussed national security matters and exchanged views on regional and international developments, according to the Foreign Office.

Dar Congratulates General Aamer Raza

Dar congratulated General Aamer Raza on his promotion and appointment as Commander of the National Strategic Command and wished him success in his new responsibilities.

The Foreign Office said both officials agreed that close institutional coordination was important for advancing Pakistan’s national interests and contributing to regional peace and security.

The meeting comes as Pakistan continues to face a complex regional security environment, with developments in neighbouring regions and wider international tensions shaping the country’s diplomatic and security priorities.

National Security and Regional Developments Discussed

The Foreign Office did not disclose specific details of the national security matters discussed during the meeting.

However, the two officials exchanged views on regional and international developments, according to the official statement.

The emphasis on institutional coordination highlights the importance of communication between Pakistan’s diplomatic leadership and its national strategic security institutions on issues affecting the country’s interests and regional stability.

General Aamer Raza’s New Role

General Aamer Raza took charge as Commander National Strategic Command on July 31 after being promoted to the rank of four-star general and appointed to the newly established position.

The post was created following the restructuring of Pakistan’s higher military command under the 27th Constitutional Amendment, which abolished the office of Chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee and established the positions of Chief of Defence Forces and Commander National Strategic Command.

The President’s Office has also confirmed Aamer Raza’s appointment as CNSC and his subsequent recognition with the Nishan-e-Imtiaz (Military) in August.

Focus on National Interests

The latest meeting underscores the role of coordination between Pakistan’s foreign policy and strategic security leadership.

While the Foreign Office did not provide details of any specific decisions or agreements, it said the two sides agreed on the importance of coordinated institutional efforts to advance Pakistan’s national interests and support regional peace and security.

The meeting also comes at a time of heightened regional diplomatic and security activity, making coordination between civilian foreign-policy institutions and national security leadership an important element of Pakistan’s broader strategic approach.
