Farjana Easmim Medha starred with bat and ball as Bangladesh defended 139 to hand Pakistan their second defeat in the Faisalabad tri-series.
WEB DESK: Bangladesh Under-19 Women defeated Pakistan Under-19 Women by 13 runs in the fourth match of the Women’s U19 T20 Tri-Nation Series at Iqbal Stadium in Faisalabad on Tuesday.
Bangladesh posted 139 for five in their 20 overs before restricting Pakistan to 126 for seven, handing the hosts their second defeat of the tournament.
Bangladesh recover after early setbacks
Bangladesh were in trouble early in their innings, slipping to 4 for two in the second over.
Ochena Jannat Emanta and Nishita Akter Nishi helped steady the innings, with Nishita scoring 20 from 19 balls and Emanta contributing 17 from 18.
Sadia Islam then added 24 from 21 deliveries as Bangladesh reached 88 for five after 13.1 overs.
Sadia Akter and Farjana Easmim Medha subsequently produced an unbeaten 51-run partnership for the sixth wicket to lift Bangladesh to 139 for five.
Sadia remained unbeaten on 33 from 33 balls, including two fours and a six, while Farjana finished with 28 not out from 22 deliveries, hitting three fours and a six.
Pakistan make strong start but lose momentum
Pakistan began the chase confidently, with openers Komal Khan and Ravail Farhan putting together a 69-run opening partnership.
Komal top-scored for Pakistan with 36 from 29 balls, hitting four fours and a six. Ravail Farhan contributed 32 from 29 deliveries, including six fours.
Bangladesh struck twice in the 10th over to remove both openers before Areesha Ansari was dismissed for one in the following over.
Zoofishan Ayyaz kept Pakistan in contention with a determined 32 from 30 balls, but regular wickets prevented the hosts from building enough momentum in the closing stages.
Pakistan eventually finished on 126 for seven after 20 overs, 14 runs short of the target.
Farjana stars with ball
Farjana Easmim Medha completed an impressive all-round performance by taking three wickets for 25 runs from her four overs.
Nishita Akter Nishi also claimed two wickets for 28 runs as Bangladesh’s bowling attack kept Pakistan’s scoring under control during the latter stages of the chase.
Farjana was subsequently named Player of the Match.
Pakistan suffer second defeat
The result was Pakistan’s second defeat in the tournament.
Pakistan had earlier lost to Bangladesh by 30 runs in the opening match before recovering with a five-wicket victory over Sri Lanka. Bangladesh also lost to Sri Lanka by four wickets on October 5.
Bangladesh remain at the top of the tournament standings and will face Sri Lanka in their next match on October 8.
Pakistan will next play Sri Lanka on October 9 before meeting Bangladesh again on October 11. The tournament final is scheduled for October 16 at Iqbal Stadium, Faisalabad.
