Pakistan, Türkiye Move to Rapidly Deploy Forces to Saudi Arabia Under Makkah Defence Pact

RIYADH, SAUDI ARABIA — WEB DESK: Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye have agreed to immediately move towards practical implementation of their collective-defence commitments, including measures to provide agreed military forces and capabilities for rapid deployment in Saudi Arabia amid escalating security threats to the kingdom.

The decision was taken during an emergency meeting of the Strategic Political and Defence Committee of the Makkah Alliance for Defense in Riyadh.

The high-level meeting brought together political and military officials from all three countries and reviewed the security situation facing Saudi Arabia.

Pakistan was represented by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar, Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif and Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir.

The committee reviewed the outcome of political and military consultations held before the meeting and approved recommendations aimed at strengthening collective defence.

The three countries decided to take the necessary steps to provide the agreed military forces and capabilities and ensure their rapid deployment in Saudi Arabia.

The measures will be implemented under approved arrangements and the respective national laws of the participating countries.

The objective is to strengthen military readiness, integration and the alliance’s collective ability to respond to security threats.

Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye also strongly condemned attempts to target the holy cities of Makkah and Madinah as well as continuing attacks against Saudi cities and civilian and economic facilities.

Pakistan and Türkiye praised the readiness of the Saudi armed forces and their response to recent security threats.

The three countries reaffirmed that the security of each member forms an integral part of their collective security and pledged to defend their sovereignty and territorial integrity under the Makkah agreement.

The committee also approved the appointment of retired Pakistani Lieutenant General Nauman Mahmood as the first secretary-general of the Makkah Alliance for Defense.

He will serve a three-year term and oversee efforts to advance the institutional development and objectives of the alliance.

The Riyadh decisions mark a significant shift from establishing the trilateral defence framework towards implementing operational collective-defence measures.

However, the joint statement did not publicly disclose the number of personnel involved, specific units, equipment, exact deployment locations or a timetable for their arrival in Saudi Arabia.

The agreement therefore establishes measures for rapid deployment of agreed forces and military capabilities, while operational details remain undisclosed.

The latest developments come amid heightened regional tensions and repeated threats to Saudi territory, increasing pressure on the three-member alliance to demonstrate its collective-defence commitments in practice.
