England announce 16-player squad for Pakistan ODI tri-series

Date:

Harry Brook will captain England in Pakistan, while Adil Rashid and Sam Curran return and Jos Buttler misses the tour through injury.

Web Desk: England have announced a 16-player squad for the upcoming ODI tri-series against Pakistan and Sri Lanka, with Harry Brook retaining the captaincy for the tournament in Pakistan.

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) confirmed the squad on October 1, with the tri-series scheduled to take place in Rawalpindi and Lahore from October 18 to 31.

England will begin their campaign against Pakistan in Rawalpindi on October 20 before facing Sri Lanka two days later at the same venue.

Brook to lead England in Pakistan

Brook will continue as England’s ODI captain following the team’s 2-1 series victory over Sri Lanka at home last month.

The squad includes several established international players, including Joe Root, Ben Duckett, Will Jacks, Liam Dawson, Gus Atkinson and Josh Tongue.

Adil Rashid has returned after recovering from a hand injury that ruled him out of England’s recent ODI series against Sri Lanka.

All-rounder Sam Curran has also been recalled after recovering from a groin injury.

Buttler ruled out, Archer rested

England will travel to Pakistan without Jos Buttler, who suffered a hamstring injury during the second ODI against Sri Lanka.

Jordan Cox is included in the squad and recently impressed with both the bat and gloves, scoring 76 from 52 deliveries in the series decider against Sri Lanka.

Fast bowler Jofra Archer has also been left out, with the ECB confirming that he has been rested to manage his workload following a busy summer.

Mason Crane receives maiden ODI call-up

Leg-spinner Mason Crane has received his first ODI call-up.

The 29-year-old previously represented England in one Test and two T20 internationals. His Test appearance came during the 2018 Ashes series in Sydney.

Uncapped all-rounder James Coles and pacer Henry Crocombe have also been selected.

The ECB said both young players were included in England’s white-ball squads for the Sri Lanka series before earning places in the Pakistan-bound ODI group.

England squad

The 16-player England squad is:

Harry Brook (captain), Gus Atkinson, Sonny Baker, Tom Banton, James Coles, Jordan Cox, Mason Crane, Henry Crocombe, Sam Curran, Liam Dawson, Ben Duckett, Will Jacks, Jamie Overton, Adil Rashid, Joe Root and Josh Tongue.
