WEB DESK: England secured their first victory of the 2026-27 UEFA Nations League campaign with a 2-0 win over Czech Republic in Prague on Tuesday.
Anthony Gordon opened the scoring early in the second half before captain Harry Kane doubled England’s advantage in the 69th minute. The result gave England their first three points in Group A3.
Czech Republic reduced to 10 players
The hosts were reduced to 10 men in the first half after midfielder Pavel Šulc was shown a red card following a VAR review for a challenge on England’s Elliot Anderson.
Despite having the numerical advantage, England were unable to break the deadlock before halftime.
Gordon breaks the deadlock
England eventually took the lead two minutes into the second half.
Trent Alexander-Arnold delivered a precise cross into the area, which Gordon converted with a header to put England ahead.
The goal continued Gordon’s strong run of form for the national team, giving him three goals in his last three appearances for England.
Kane seals England’s victory
England doubled their lead in the 69th minute when Harry Kane converted an opportunity inside the box.
The goal was Kane’s 87th for England, further extending his record as the country’s leading international goalscorer.
Czech Republic created opportunities but could not find a way back into the match, while England maintained their advantage until the final whistle.
England move second in Group A3
The victory moved England into second place in Nations League Group A3, behind Spain, who defeated Croatia 4-1 in the group’s other match.
England will next face Croatia away on Saturday, October 3, while Czech Republic are scheduled to play Spain on the same day.
The result marks England’s first Nations League win of the current campaign after their opening 3-2 defeat to Spain at Wembley on September 26.
