ISLAMABAD – Web Desk: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Secretary General Nayyar Bukhari has said his party will provide constitutional suggestions if the federal government consults it on the possible imposition of governor’s rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Bukhari said governor’s rule could be imposed on the governor’s recommendation if the provincial government fails to perform its responsibilities. His remarks come amid growing tensions between the PTI-backed KP government and the federal administration.
Bukhari comments on possible governor’s rule
Speaking on Wednesday, Bukhari said the PPP would give its constitutional input if the federal government formally consulted the party on the matter.
His comments come after federal government ministers repeatedly raised the possibility of governor’s rule in KP, citing the province’s security situation and disputes involving the PTI-backed provincial administration.
The proposal remains a political and constitutional issue, and no order imposing governor’s rule in the province was announced in the report.
Federal government has raised emergency option
Federal Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar had previously said the Constitution provided a framework for imposing an emergency if circumstances in KP reached the required threshold.
Tarar told Geo News that if the constitutional conditions for an emergency were met, it should be imposed.
KP Governor Faisal Karim Kundi, who is associated with the PPP, also warned the provincial government against creating circumstances that could lead to governor’s rule. He said that if President Asif Ali Zardari issued an order imposing it, the order would be implemented.
PPP raises concerns over law and order
Bukhari described the law and order situation in KP as extremely serious, saying citizens in parts of the province were unable to move freely in the evening.
He also questioned PTI leadership over its reported absence from funerals of people killed in terrorist attacks.
The PPP leader urged the federal government to enforce the law to prevent violent incidents and maintain public order.
Bukhari criticises PTI’s political approach
Bukhari alleged that the PTI-led provincial government’s priority was focused on securing the release of party founder Imran Khan rather than addressing broader public issues.
He said the PPP believed political disputes should be addressed through dialogue and argued that national matters could be resolved through negotiations.
Bukhari also claimed that PTI was experiencing internal differences, with different factions taking separate positions. These were his political assertions and were not independently established in the Geo report.
PTI plans October 4 Islamabad march
The political standoff comes as PTI prepares for a planned long march towards Islamabad on October 4.
The party had originally scheduled the protest for September 27 but later postponed it. The planned march has become another point of tension between the PTI-led provincial government and the federal authorities.
Recent developments have also included calls within PTI for a further postponement because of security concerns, while the provincial leadership has continued to support the announced protest schedule.
PPP to decide on All Parties Conference
Bukhari also said PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari had been invited to an All Parties Conference convened by the Tehreek-e-Tahaffuz-e-Ayeen-e-Pakistan (TTAP).
He said the PPP’s central executive committee would decide whether the party would participate in the conference.
