Security sources say the operation was conducted in the Mazaband Range near the Pakistan-Iran border after terrorist movement was detected.
WEB DESK: Security forces killed one terrorist during an operation in Balochistan’s Kech district on Friday, September 25, security sources said.
The operation was carried out in the Mazaband Range area near the Pakistan-Iran border, according to Pakistan Television, which cited security sources.
Operation launched after intelligence input
Security sources said the movement of terrorists was detected in the area on the basis of credible intelligence.
Following the detection, security forces launched an operation and acted to prevent the militants from escaping towards Iran, the sources said.
One terrorist belonging to what Pakistani authorities refer to as Fitna al-Hindustan was killed during the operation, according to the sources.
The sources said security forces remained committed to countering terrorism in Balochistan and that operations would continue against militant activity.
Operation near Pakistan-Iran border
The Mazaband Range is located in Kech district, an area that includes territory close to Pakistan’s border with Iran.
The latest operation comes amid a series of counterterrorism operations in Balochistan in recent weeks.
On September 23, the military said security forces had killed 19 terrorists in separate operations in Balochistan, including 13 during a clearance operation in the Shaban area of Quetta district and six in separate engagements in Kech and Quetta West. The military also said a soldier was killed during one of the engagements.
Security situation in Balochistan
Security operations have continued across Balochistan as authorities target militant networks and suspected hideouts.
The military and government use the term Fitna al-Hindustan for Balochistan-based militant groups and allege that they receive foreign support. Such descriptions are official Pakistani government terminology and should not be treated as independently established attribution unless separately verified.
No further details about the identity of the slain terrorist, weapons recovered during Friday’s operation or any casualties among security personnel were provided in the reports reviewed.
Further developments are awaited from the security authorities.
