Five Suspected Militants Killed After Attack on Quetta Police Post
QUETTA, PAKISTAN — WEB DESK: Five suspected militants were killed during an exchange of fire after armed attackers targeted a police post in Aghbarg, on the outskirts of Quetta, on Wednesday, according to police sources.
The attack triggered an armed response from police personnel stationed in the area. Police sources told Express Urdu that five attackers were killed during the exchange of fire.
The situation remained active at the time of the initial report, with police saying firing between security personnel and the attackers was continuing. Additional security forces were called to the area following reports of the assault.
A large contingent of security personnel subsequently reached the scene and cordoned off the surrounding area. Police said operations against the remaining attackers were underway, while a search and clearance operation had also been launched.
No casualties among police personnel or civilians were reported in the initial Express account. Authorities had also not publicly identified the attackers or announced an organisational affiliation at the time of publication.
The incident comes amid a heightened security environment across Balochistan. On September 23, separate reporting said security forces killed six suspected militants and detained nine individuals during an intelligence-based operation in the province’s Saran Tangi area. The operation was reported by state-run Radio Pakistan and subsequently carried by Dawn.
Earlier, security forces said they killed five militants during an operation near Kalat along the N-25 Chaman-Karachi highway and recovered 23 people who had been abducted. The military said the armed group had attempted to establish a roadside checkpoint for kidnapping, extortion and vehicle theft.
Security forces also conducted recent operations in Panjgur and Chagai. Dawn reported that 11 suspected militants were killed in operations in the two districts on September 19, according to security officials.
Separately, two police officers guarding a polio vaccination team were killed in an attack in Balochistan’s Noshki district on Tuesday. Police identified the officers as Muhammad Yasar and Abdul Rauf and said a search operation was launched after the attackers fled with their official weapons.
The latest Quetta incident remains developing. The identities of those killed, the number of attackers involved and responsibility for the assault had not been independently established in the initial reporting.
