Asfandyar Ahmad was abducted by armed assailants from his residence around 2am, with police launching a search operation and setting up checkpoints.
WEB DESK: Asfandyar Ahmad, judicial superintendent of South Waziristan Upper, was abducted from his residence in Tank district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa early Saturday, police said.
According to the district police officer, armed assailants entered the official’s residence at around 2am and abducted him.
Police said the suspects fled the area on two motorcycles after taking the judicial superintendent with them.
Search operation launched
Police have launched a search operation to locate and recover Asfandyar Ahmad.
Checkpoints have also been established at various locations as law enforcement agencies continue efforts to trace the suspects and the abducted official, police said.
Authorities have not yet disclosed the identities of the attackers or established a motive for the abduction.
Previous abduction of judicial official
The latest incident comes after a similar abduction involving a judicial official in the same broader region.
In April 2024, Shakirullah Marwat, then sessions judge of South Waziristan district, was kidnapped by armed men near the border area of Tank and Dera Ismail Khan.
He was recovered safely a day after the abduction, according to a statement at the time by then adviser to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister on information, Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif.
Security situation in KP
The abduction comes amid heightened security concerns in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The incident also occurred a day after explosions at a mosque inside Kohat Police Lines during Friday prayers. Geo News reported that several people, including police officials, were killed and more than 100 injured in the incident.
