Security forces killed six militants in North Waziristan and four in Hangu between September 15 and 17, according to the military’s media wing.
WEB DESK: Pakistan’s security forces killed 10 militants in separate engagements in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa between September 15 and 17, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Thursday.
According to the military’s media wing, six militants were killed during an intelligence-based operation in North Waziristan, while four others were killed in a separate encounter in Hangu district.
Six Militants Killed in North Waziristan
ISPR said security forces launched an intelligence-based operation in North Waziristan after receiving reports about the presence of militants in the area.
During the operation, troops engaged the militants’ position following an exchange of fire, killing six members of the group identified by the military as Fitna al-Khawarij.
Four additional militants were killed in a separate encounter in Hangu, bringing the total reported deaths from the two operations to 10.
Weapons and Ammunition Recovered
The military said weapons and ammunition were recovered from the militants killed during the operations.
ISPR further claimed that the militants had been involved in terrorist activities in the area. These details are based on the military’s account and have not been independently verified.
The military referred to the group as an India-sponsored militant organisation. This is an allegation made by Pakistani authorities and should not be treated as independently established without additional evidence.
Six Soldiers Killed in Separate IED Attack
The announcement also included details of a separate incident on September 17.
According to ISPR, an improvised explosive device struck a security forces convoy, killing six soldiers.
Security forces subsequently began sanitisation operations in the affected areas to search for any remaining militants, the military said.
Counterterrorism Operations Continue
ISPR said counterterrorism operations would continue under the government’s Azm-e-Istehkam framework, which was approved by the Federal Apex Committee under the National Action Plan.
The military said the campaign is aimed at countering foreign-sponsored and supported terrorism.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has remained one of Pakistan’s main areas affected by militant violence. A Centre for Research and Security Studies report cited by Geo News said KP accounted for more than 61% of violence-related deaths recorded across Pakistan during the second quarter of 2026.
