Eight militants were killed in Kharan and three in Washuk during intelligence-based operations, according to Pakistan’s military.
WEB DESK: Pakistan’s security forces have killed 11 militants in separate intelligence-based operations in Balochistan’s Kharan and Washuk districts, the military’s media wing, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), said Wednesday.
According to ISPR, the operations were conducted on September 6 and 7 following intelligence reports about the presence of militants affiliated with what the military described as the Indian proxy group Fitna al-Hindustan.
Eight militants were killed during an operation in Kharan, while three others were killed in a separate operation in Washuk, according to the military.
Eight militants killed in Kharan
ISPR said security forces launched the Kharan operation on September 6 after militants allegedly attempted to establish a roadblock and disrupt local traffic.
Security personnel intercepted the group and engaged the militants, resulting in the deaths of eight, according to the military’s statement.
The operation was based on intelligence regarding militant activity in the district.
Three militants killed in Washuk
In a separate operation in Washuk district on September 7, security forces targeted what ISPR described as a militant hideout.
The military said troops conducted the operation and engaged the militants in an intense exchange of fire, killing three of them.
Security forces also recovered approximately 2.9 tonnes of explosives, which ISPR said were being used to prepare improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
Sanitisation operation continues
ISPR said sanitisation operations were continuing in the area to locate and eliminate any other militants who may still be present.
The military said the counter-terrorism campaign would continue under Azm-e-Istehkam, an initiative approved by the Federal Apex Committee under the National Action Plan.
According to ISPR, the campaign is aimed at combating what it describes as foreign-sponsored and supported terrorism in Pakistan.
Balochistan remains a major security hotspot
The latest operations come amid continued militant activity in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
A Centre for Research and Security Studies report cited by Geo News said the two provinces accounted for nearly 96% of violence-related fatalities recorded across Pakistan during the second quarter of 2026.
The report recorded 265 violence-related deaths in Balochistan during the period, while Khyber Pakhtunkhwa recorded 475. Balochistan also reported 94 violent incidents, according to the cited data.
The latest military claims have not been independently verified by Geo News or other independent sources cited in the report.
