New digital evidence prompts fresh investigation into harassment and threats case; special team given one month to complete inquiry.
LAHORE – Web Desk: The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has issued fresh notices to actor Momina Iqbal and PML-N Punjab Assembly member Saqib Chadhar after new digital evidence emerged in a case involving allegations of online harassment and threats.
The agency has formed a special investigation team to conduct a fresh inquiry into the matter. The team will examine the newly surfaced digital evidence along with records from the earlier investigation.
According to an NCCIA spokesperson, the investigation team will be headed by an officer of deputy director rank and has been given one month to complete the inquiry and submit its report to the NCCIA director general.
The agency said any further legal action would be determined after reviewing the findings of the investigation.
Fresh investigation ordered
The latest development follows a change in the investigation of the case.
The NCCIA investigation officer informed a Lahore sessions court that the agency had changed the investigation and constituted a joint investigation team (JIT).
The officer also told the court that the arrest of Saqib Chadhar and his wife, Sameera, was not currently required. Following the statement, Chadhar withdrew his interim bail application.
The fresh inquiry means investigators will now reassess the available evidence and examine the newly presented digital material before determining the next legal course.
Chadhar says evidence led to decision
Speaking to reporters after appearing before the court, Chadhar said the decision not to require his arrest followed evidence he had submitted to the NCCIA.
He claimed that the proceedings had vindicated his position and described the case as false and baseless. These remain Chadhar’s claims and have not been established as a final judicial finding.
The NCCIA has not declared either party guilty or innocent through the fresh inquiry. Its latest statement indicates that the investigation remains ongoing and that further legal action will depend on its findings.
Momina Iqbal vows to pursue case
Momina Iqbal, who initially brought the allegations into the public domain through social media, has maintained that the matter should be investigated without bias.
Speaking after her court appearance, the actor said she had consistently called for an impartial examination of the case.
Iqbal also said she intended to continue pursuing the matter despite the latest developments.
The allegations include claims of online harassment, cyberbullying and threats. The NCCIA previously registered a case against Chadhar under provisions of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) and the Pakistan Penal Code.
Case remains under investigation
The dispute became public earlier this year after Iqbal alleged that she had been subjected to online harassment and threats.
The NCCIA subsequently registered a case against Chadhar following her complaint. The investigation has since involved the examination of digital material and statements from the parties involved.
The latest notices and formation of a special investigation team represent a new phase in the case.
Both sides are now expected to cooperate with the fresh inquiry, while investigators review the newly surfaced evidence and previous records.
The NCCIA has set a one-month deadline for the special team to submit its findings. Any further proceedings will depend on the outcome of that investigation.
