PM Shehbaz, Sindh CM agree to maintain political harmony

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah discuss political tensions and agree to strengthen coordination between the federal and provincial governments.

KARACHI: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah have agreed to maintain political harmony and strengthen cooperation between the federal and provincial governments amid growing political tensions.

The two leaders held a meeting in Karachi on Monday, where they discussed the prevailing political situation and issues relating to coordination between Islamabad and Sindh.

Shehbaz, Murad Discuss Political Situation

During the meeting, Prime Minister Shehbaz and CM Murad Ali Shah exchanged views on the country’s political environment and stressed the importance of maintaining stability.

The leaders agreed that political differences should not affect cooperation between the federal and provincial governments.

The meeting comes amid heightened political tensions in the country and differences between the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) at the centre and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), which governs Sindh.

Focus on Federal-Provincial Coordination

The discussions also focused on matters concerning Sindh and the federal government.

Both sides agreed on the need for continued coordination to address issues affecting the province and to ensure that development and governance matters remain on track.

The understanding is significant because the PPP is an important political partner of the federal government, despite differences over several policy and administrative issues.

Political Cooperation Between PPP and PML-N

The federal government is led by the PML-N, while the PPP controls the provincial government in Sindh.

The two parties have maintained cooperation at the federal level, but political disagreements have periodically emerged over development funds, administrative matters and the distribution of resources.

The latest meeting signals an effort by the leadership of both sides to prevent those differences from escalating.

Maintaining Stability

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has repeatedly called for political stability and cooperation among political parties, arguing that economic and development priorities require a stable political environment.

Murad Ali Shah, meanwhile, has stressed the importance of addressing Sindh’s concerns through dialogue with the federal government.

The agreement to maintain political harmony could help both sides manage disagreements through institutional and political channels.
