DPM Dar, Syria FM discuss bilateral cooperation and regional developments

Date:

Asaad Hassan Al-Shaibani’s visit marks the first foreign minister-level engagement between Pakistan and Syria in nearly two decades.

WEB DESK: Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Hassan Al-Shaibani held talks with Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar in Islamabad on Thursday, with the two sides discussing bilateral cooperation and regional developments.

According to Pakistan’s Foreign Office, Dar received Al-Shaibani at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where the two held what officials described as a warm and constructive meeting.

Pakistan, Syria discuss stronger bilateral cooperation

The two foreign ministers reaffirmed the longstanding ties between Pakistan and Syria and discussed ways to expand cooperation in areas of mutual interest.

The meeting was followed by delegation-level talks, during which officials reviewed the broader spectrum of bilateral relations and explored avenues for strengthening cooperation between Islamabad and Damascus.

The discussions come as both countries seek to deepen diplomatic engagement and cooperation amid evolving regional circumstances.

Regional developments also on agenda

Regional developments were also expected to feature prominently in the delegation-level discussions.

According to the Foreign Office, both sides exchanged views on the evolving regional situation and discussed developments of mutual concern.

The talks come a day after Pakistan strongly condemned an Israeli attack on Syria’s Abu al-Duhur airbase, describing the action as a violation of international law and reaffirming Islamabad’s support for Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

First FM-level engagement in nearly two decades

The Foreign Office said Al-Shaibani’s visit marks the first foreign minister-level engagement between Pakistan and Syria in nearly two decades.

The Syrian foreign minister arrived in Islamabad late Wednesday on an official visit at the invitation of Ishaq Dar. He is accompanied by a high-level Syrian delegation.

The August 19-20 visit is aimed at further strengthening Pakistan-Syria relations and advancing cooperation between the two countries.

The latest engagement underscores Islamabad’s continued diplomatic outreach on regional issues while seeking to strengthen bilateral ties with Damascus.
