Govt files review plea against SC order to shift Imran Khan to private hospital

Date:

The federal government has challenged the Supreme Court’s order directing Imran Khan’s transfer to a private hospital for medical treatment.

WEB DESK: The federal government has filed a review petition against the Supreme Court’s order directing the transfer of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan to a private hospital for medical treatment.

The government’s move comes shortly after the Supreme Court directed authorities to shift the former prime minister from Adiala Jail to a private medical facility and ordered that a medical board be constituted for his assessment.

Government challenges Supreme Court order

According to the report, the government has approached the Supreme Court seeking a review of the order concerning Khan’s transfer to a private hospital.

The petition challenges the court’s direction and seeks reconsideration of the arrangements ordered for Khan’s medical treatment.

The development adds another legal dimension to the ongoing dispute over Khan’s health, medical care and access to his family and doctors.

Supreme Court had ordered hospital transfer

The Supreme Court had directed that Imran Khan be moved to a private hospital under strict security arrangements.

The court also ordered the formation of a medical board and directed authorities to provide relevant medical records.

The bench stressed that the former prime minister’s treatment should be handled appropriately while security arrangements remained in place.

The court had further directed that Khan be allowed to meet family members once a week during his hospital stay.

Dispute over medical treatment

Khan’s lawyers and family members have repeatedly sought access to medical care and medical consultations, while government officials have maintained that security and legal requirements must also be taken into account.

The Supreme Court’s earlier proceedings focused on Khan’s medical condition, access to doctors and the records of his treatment while incarcerated.

The government’s review petition now places the Supreme Court order back before the court for consideration.

Case remains politically sensitive

The issue comes amid continued political tensions surrounding Imran Khan, who remains incarcerated in connection with multiple cases.

The court’s decision on the government’s review petition will determine whether the existing hospital-transfer order remains unchanged, is modified or is reconsidered.

Further proceedings are expected to clarify the government’s objections and the legal status of the Supreme Court’s earlier directions.
