Iranian President Says Tehran Prefers Diplomacy to War

Date:

Masoud Pezeshkian says Iran will defend its rights and sovereignty while keeping the door open to negotiations and a diplomatic solution.

TEHRAN, IRAN — WEB DESK: Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has said that Tehran prefers negotiations and diplomacy over war to secure its rights and resolve disputes, while stressing that Iran will continue to defend its national interests and sovereignty.

According to media reports, Pezeshkian said Iran would not surrender to pressure or force but did not want to close the door to dialogue.

Iran keeps door open to negotiations

Pezeshkian said Iran does not seek military confrontation and would rather resolve disputes through diplomatic channels.

However, he stressed that negotiations can only be effective when they are conducted without threats, pressure or unilateral demands.

The Iranian president maintained that Tehran would not compromise on what it considers its national rights or sovereignty.

Diplomacy amid US-Iran tensions

Pezeshkian’s remarks come as diplomatic contacts continue between the United States and Iran over efforts to end the conflict and address arrangements surrounding the Strait of Hormuz.

The strategic waterway has remained a major point of concern amid heightened regional tensions because of its importance to global energy supplies and maritime trade.

Any agreement affecting shipping through the strait could have wider consequences for international oil markets and regional security.

Iran signals conditional openness

Pezeshkian’s comments suggest that Tehran is maintaining a diplomatic option while rejecting negotiations conducted under what it considers coercive conditions.

The Iranian position combines a willingness to engage with demands that any dialogue respect the country’s sovereignty and national interests.

The latest statement comes as regional and international actors continue diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing tensions and finding a pathway toward a broader settlement.

For now, the possibility of progress will depend on whether the parties can bridge differences over security, sovereignty and the conditions for negotiations.
