LOS ANGELES – Web Desk: Phoebe Bridgers appears to have referenced her former partner Paul Mescal and his current girlfriend Gracie Abrams in lyrics from her upcoming third studio album, “Lost Weekend,” according to a review by The Guardian.
On the track “The Governor’s Waltz,” Bridgers reportedly sings: “She can pretend to be me // Since she took my place in my bed, on that stage.” The lyrics are believed to address Abrams, 26, who began dating Mescal, 30, in 2024. Bridgers and Mescal dated for approximately two years before their reported split in 2022.
The Guardian review also highlighted lyrics from the album’s title track where Bridgers appears to address her previous relationship, stating: “I’m supposed to be married but I called it off.” Much of the album reportedly explores the death of Bridgers’ father and the end of her relationship with Mescal.
Fans have drawn comparisons between Bridgers’ lyrics and Abrams’ 2024 album “The Secret of Us,” which featured tracks like “Normal Thing” and “Risk” that appeared to reference Mescal’s past relationship. “Lost Weekend” is scheduled for release on August 14.
