Trump Warns Iran: ‘Last Chance’ for Deal, or Face Consequences

Date:

WASHINGTON – Web Desk: US President Donald Trump has warned Iran that this is its “last chance” to reach an agreement with the United States, stating that military strikes have been delayed once again at the request of Gulf countries to give diplomacy a final opportunity.

Speaking to journalists at the White House, Trump said several nations had contacted him and all wanted Iran to be given one last chance. “This is the last chance I am giving Iran today,” he said. When asked what was different this time, Trump responded: “I want to give them a final opportunity before total destruction.”

Trump expressed hope that negotiations would move very quickly, adding that under the first phase of the agreement, the Strait of Hormuz would be fully reopened for maritime traffic by Tuesday. The second phase would involve ending Iran’s nuclear program, though he acknowledged this process would take time.

Both points — reopening the Strait and ending Iran’s nuclear program — were part of the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the US and Iran in June.
