Trump Says Iran Talks Set for Today: ‘I Prefer a Deal Over Killing People’

Date:

WASHINGTON – Web Desk: US President Donald Trump has announced that important negotiations between the United States and Iran will take place today, though he declined to specify a deadline for any potential agreement.

Speaking to journalists during his return to Washington from New Jersey, Trump said talks with Iran would begin Monday afternoon but did not reveal where the negotiations would be held or who would participate. Earlier, Trump had claimed on Truth Social that Iran, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Qatar had requested the US to delay a strike so that the Strait of Hormuz could be immediately reopened and an agreement on Iran’s nuclear program could be reached.

When asked whether a deadline had been set for Iran, Trump said: “I would rather make a deal than kill people. I don’t want to kill people because many people die in war.” He reiterated that preventing Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons remains Washington’s top priority.

The Strait of Hormuz closure has placed severe pressure on global energy markets, with approximately 20% of the world’s oil and LNG passing through the vital waterway. Rising oil prices and inflation concerns have increased pressure on Trump to pursue a diplomatic solution rather than military action.
