Menlo Park, United States — Web Desk: Meta Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg has dismissed predictions that artificial intelligence (AI) will eliminate millions of jobs, arguing instead that the technology will create new opportunities, businesses and employment for people around the world.
The future of AI should depend less on the technology itself and more on who controls it, Zuckerberg wrote in a recent opinion article published in a US newspaper. He argued that advanced AI systems should be widely accessible to individuals rather than being controlled solely by governments or a small number of powerful institutions.
According to Zuckerberg, broader public access to AI would enable more people to start businesses, improve productivity and create new jobs instead of replacing workers on a large scale.
The Meta CEO also questioned why some AI developers continue to warn that artificial intelligence could significantly reduce employment and diminish humanity’s role while simultaneously accelerating the development of the technology.
“If someone genuinely believes a technology could become dangerous, it is difficult to understand why they would continue developing it so aggressively,” Zuckerberg said, according to his published remarks.
He maintained that AI should be viewed primarily as a tool that helps people achieve more in their personal and professional lives rather than as a replacement for human talent.
Zuckerberg pointed to previous technological revolutions, saying history shows that transformative innovations have generally expanded economic opportunities instead of eliminating them permanently. While some jobs changed or disappeared, new industries and careers emerged as technology evolved.
His comments come as governments, businesses and researchers continue to debate the long-term impact of artificial intelligence on employment, productivity and society. Many experts believe AI will automate certain tasks, while others argue it will also create entirely new professions and reshape the global workforce.
