Saudi Arabia Launches Retaliatory Strikes in Iraq After Oil Facility Drone Attacks

Date:

RIYADH – Web Desk: Saudi Arabia has launched retaliatory strikes against specific Iran-backed militia positions in Iraq after drone attacks targeting its oil facilities, according to Arab media reports. The operation was conducted with full coordination and support from US Central Command (CENTCOM).

Saudi Ministry of Defense spokesman Major General Turki Al-Maliki stated that the kingdom’s armed forces targeted sites in Iraq linked to elements responsible for attacks on critical oil infrastructure. The Saudi Royal Air Force struck four locations in Iraq, including Basra, Wasit, Karbala, and Nineveh.

Al-Maliki said the operation was carried out to protect national security, energy infrastructure, and economic interests. He warned that Saudi Arabia reserves the right to take all necessary measures to defend its sovereignty, citizens, and critical installations, and will respond forcefully to any future threats.

The Saudi Foreign Ministry confirmed the strikes, stating they were conducted under the right of self-defense as per Article 51 of the UN Charter, following drone attacks from Iraqi territory against Saudi oil facilities. The ministry emphasized that the kingdom does not seek to escalate tensions but will take all necessary steps to defend its security, sovereignty, and national interests.
