Kuwait’s Foreign Minister Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah has arrived in Islamabad on an official visit to discuss bilateral ties and regional developments with Pakistan’s leadership.
Islamabad, Pakistan – Web Desk: Kuwait’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, arrived in Islamabad on Tuesday on an official visit at the invitation of Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar.
According to a statement issued by Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the two sides are expected to hold discussions covering the full range of bilateral relations, along with an exchange of views on regional and international matters of shared interest.
A spokesperson for the ministry said the visit reflects the long-standing, brotherly relationship between Pakistan and Kuwait, built on shared history, mutual trust and close cooperation between the two nations.
Independent verification of further official remarks beyond the Foreign Office statement has not been possible at this time.
Upon landing at Islamabad International Airport, the Kuwaiti foreign minister was received by Additional Secretary (Middle East) Zahid Hussain. The Foreign Office added that Sheikh Al-Sabah is also expected to pay a courtesy call on Pakistan’s top leadership during his stay in the capital.
The visit comes at a notable moment in Pakistan-Kuwait relations. Days earlier, reports emerged that Islamabad has been negotiating an expanded defence pact with Kuwait, reportedly tied to energy cooperation and investment commitments, citing sources familiar with the ongoing discussions. This has not been independently confirmed by Geo News.
Kuwait has maintained a more limited defence arrangement with Pakistan since 2023, focused primarily on training and joint military exercises. According to the same reports, Kuwait is now seeking a broader defence partnership modelled on Pakistan’s existing pact with Saudi Arabia, potentially including troop deployments, fighter jets, drones, air defence systems and related military infrastructure. These details remain unconfirmed by either government at this stage.
The Kuwaiti foreign minister’s visit is being viewed as part of wider efforts by Gulf states to deepen strategic and defence ties with Pakistan amid ongoing regional instability. Further details of the visit’s outcomes, including any formal agreements, are expected to be announced by the Foreign Office in the coming days.
