Karachi, Pakistan – Web Desk: Sindh Rangers have arrested Qari Bashir, the mastermind behind the June 27 attack on a Rangers camp in Karachi’s Gulshan-e-Johar area, officials announced during a press conference .
Attack Details
On June 27, four terrorists attacked a Sindh Rangers transport company, officials said . Three terrorists were killed in the Rangers’ successful operation, while one was injured and arrested . Three of the attackers were Afghan nationals, while the fourth hailed from Bajaur and had lived in Afghanistan for 20 years .
Afghan Handlers
Sindh Interior Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar said all the handlers were directing the terrorists from Afghanistan . The terrorists’ objective was to take hostages and cause casualties, but security forces foiled the plot, he added .
Arrest and Confession
SSP CTD Irfan Bahadur said the attack was planned in four phases: planning in Afghanistan, infiltration into Pakistan, facilitation, and weapons supply . The mastermind, Qari Bashir, was brought from Afghanistan to Pakistan to lead the operation . Rangers arrested him in a separate operation, and he has confessed to his involvement .
Bahadur said a total of 13 people were involved in the attack, including facilitators and handlers in Afghanistan . A wounded terrorist, Usman, has provided a confessional statement detailing the network .
Evidence and Coordination
Officials displayed videos from Bashir’s phone showing the preparation and departure of the terrorists . Weapons and suicide jackets were supplied through a network involving handlers in Afghanistan . Weapons were sent to Karachi by Saeed Shah and received by an individual named Ehsanullah .
Safe Havens in Afghanistan
Officials alleged that Afghan soil is being used as a safe haven for terrorists, with training camps operating across the border . The attack’s planning and coordination were entirely directed from Afghanistan, officials said .
