Former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has declared that she will return to her homeland in December this year, saying she is prepared to face arrest or even death upon her arrival.
New Delhi, India / Dhaka, Bangladesh – Web Desk: According to international media reports, Hasina, who has been living in India since the collapse of her government in 2024, said she and senior leaders of the Awami League would return to Bangladesh and face any legal proceedings against them.
Speaking to supporters, Hasina acknowledged that she could be arrested or her life could be at risk upon her return. However, she said those possibilities would not deter her from going back to Bangladesh.
She also insisted that the Awami League could not be suppressed and revealed that the party was continuing efforts to reorganize its structure through virtual meetings and coordination with party members.
Following the fall of her government in 2024, Sheikh Hasina relocated to India. Since then, multiple legal cases have been filed against her in Bangladesh, and she has also been convicted in absentia in one case. Hasina has repeatedly rejected the charges, describing them as politically motivated attempts to sideline the Awami League.
Political analysts believe that if Sheikh Hasina returns to Bangladesh in December, the move could significantly escalate political tensions and influence both the country’s domestic political landscape and its relations with India.
