ANKARA – Web Desk: US President Donald Trump suffered an embarrassing slip of the tongue while discussing rising tensions in the Middle East, mistakenly referring to Iran as the “Islamic Republic of Japan” during remarks at a NATO summit in Turkey.
Speaking about recent military strikes against Iran and explaining an Iranian missile attack on the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln, Trump erroneously claimed that the “Islamic Republic of Japan” had fired 111 missiles at the carrier. He continued his remarks without correcting himself, adding that all missiles were intercepted.
The gaffe quickly went viral on social media, with clips of the speech spreading rapidly across platforms. Users highlighted the obvious mix-up between Iran and Japan, with thousands sharing clips and posting humorous reactions.
