ISLAMABAD, Pakistan – Web Desk: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will depart today for a five-day official visit to Iran and Turkey. During the first leg of the tour, the Prime Minister will travel to Iran to participate in the funeral prayers and final rites of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the late Supreme Leader of Iran.
The Prime Minister will be accompanied by the Deputy Prime Minister, other federal cabinet members, and a high-level delegation. On this occasion, the Prime Minister will reaffirm Pakistan’s solidarity, sympathy, and commitment to bilateral cooperation with Iran.
Separately, a Pakistani delegation led by Senate Chairman Yousuf Raza Gilani has already arrived in Tehran. The delegation includes Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi, Jamaat-e-Islami leader Liaquat Baloch, and representatives from various religious and political parties. Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has also reached Tehran, where he was received by Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni.
According to Iranian officials, the seven-day funeral ceremonies for Ayatollah Ali Khamenei have commenced, with representatives from over 100 countries expected to attend from around the world. The ceremonies will conclude on July 9 with burial in Mashhad.
Following the Iran visit, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will travel to Turkey, where he will hold meetings with Turkish leadership on bilateral relations, regional cooperation, and matters of mutual interest.
