Islamabad, Pakistan – Web Desk: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will undertake an official visit to Iran and Türkiye from July 3 to July 5, the Foreign Office announced on Thursday. During his visit to Tehran, the prime minister will attend the condolence ceremony for Iran’s former Supreme Leader and convey Pakistan’s solidarity with the Iranian government and people.
Speaking at the weekly media briefing, Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Andrabi said Pakistan had once again played a facilitation role in the recent Doha talks, adding that negotiations are expected to resume after the completion of the Iranian leadership’s funeral proceedings.
Following his engagements in Iran, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will travel to Istanbul at the invitation of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to discuss bilateral cooperation and regional developments.
The Foreign Office also reiterated Pakistan’s stance on the Indus Waters Treaty, stating that the decades-old agreement cannot be suspended or revoked unilaterally. Officials warned that any attempt to divert the flow of western rivers would directly impact millions of Pakistanis.
The spokesperson further said Pakistan remains committed to protecting its national interests through diplomatic and legal channels, while also highlighting ongoing counterterrorism operations, the repatriation of Iranian nationals, and Pakistan’s recent membership in the International Olive Council.
